In the short stories, "Little Cog-Burt" & " Cotton Candy", there are many similarities and differences. The message created by both women is influenced by their personal life experiences. 

Both authors, Phyllis Shand Allfrey and Dora Alonso, are known for advocating for human rights.  Each have successfully achieved their goals and are greatly known for many of their short stories. Both stories have a great mis understanding in them. Both also have the theme of judging before knowing.

 In “Little Cog-Burt”, the mother is judgmental of how Christmas will be with their workers, while in “Cotton Candy”, the young girl Lola, had a habit of judging proper suiters  by just their looks. These are both similarities that go on between both books.
