This tale from Guadalupe explains the life of an only child and her mother. The short tale conveys many messages and purposes. Mostly one message we will encounter will be not to judge a book by its cover. This leads us on now to the story. Tetiyette and her mother were approached by three beings that the author developed a goat, pig and the devil. Although Tetiyette was very hard to be pleased according to her mother one of them were chosen. The first being to approach the house had been the goat. Simply asking for a drink of water. After having his sip the goat had asked in Tetiyette's hand in marriage. Tetiyette replying " I want nothing to do with him, i want nothing to do with him, make him go away he eats grains!". A suborn girl who completely knows nothing of this goat. Next to approach them was the pig and yet again Tetiyette judges him and pushes the pig away no questions asked. Finally lastly a young man good looking gentleman had came. Tetiyette seeing how he looked immanently couldn't deny the request to marry him. Tetiyette's mother had known this man was too good to be true so trying to protect her daughter she had given her directions. A pin and handkerchief was given to Tetiyette if she poked him and blood came out he was human if not he was the one and only devil. Tetiyette had loved this man for his looks and only that. Come to find out he had been the devil. In my opinion I believe Tetiyette was not thinking straight if she knew better she would have took her mother and fathers advice. Tetiyette had been eaten by this devil but saved by her brother. If she would have been open minded about the men that came to her before all of this could have been avoided. This short story should be a lesson to all of us on life this happens all the time and by judging someone without even knowing them before can really make or break you. As seen in this story Tetiyette was broken by doing so.
